My top pick for this week: Wal-Mart!

If I were picking one store to go to today based on this week’s sales, I’d go to Wal-Mart. There were a lot of coupons in the 1/8 newspaper that make for cheapo and free items at Wally World this week. There are printable coupons too. I actually might go out tonight and see how much stuff I can rack up for free… the hunting instinct is kicking in!

What do you, personally, need to save money on?

Your coupon organization system is (almost) free after store credit this week!

Go here to see Southern Savers’ post about everything you need for your coupon organization system being free or almost free between Staples and Office Depot this week. Trust me – you WANT to take advantage of this. You are investing in your own sanity, and your own future bottom line.

Easy Rebates are mail-in rebates from Staples that are very quick, and you deposit them in the bank. Office Depot’s store credit is only good at Office Depot, so when you get it back, you can use it to buy things you would otherwise have to buy, like ink for your printer.

Even though you put out cash for these items, it’s worth it to do it when you get an asset (store credit or mail-in rebate) back in the same amount or so.

Paper is even free at one store!


You need a coupon organization system!

One of the biggest questions I get from people just getting started, or from people who have gotten frustrated, is how to organize their coupons. How do you keep it from getting overwhelming? More importantly–the subject of this blog–how do you keep your couponing from taking up too much time?

The ABSOLUTE BEST thing you can do is to organize. Don’t get a binder. It’s too time-consuming to keep up. Trust me; I’ve been there and done that.

Organizing your coupons is necessary because you should NEVER, NEVER, NEVER THROW A COUPON AWAY UNTIL IT’S EXPIRED. The very coupon you think you would never use is bound to be the one that turns out to be a $10 moneymaker right after you’ve thrown it away. So you want to keep all your coupons until they’ve expired, but you don’t want to take the time to clip them all out.

So here’s what you should do: Get a plastic file tote that will accommodate hanging file folders. Label your file folders January week 1, January week 2, January week 3, January week 4, February week 1, etc. Keep your inserts from each week in the appropriate file folder. This system is small, contained, and will roll over from year to year. When you need a coupon, you will just go to the file, pull out all your P&G inserts for the appropriate week (or whatever insert), and clip your coupons and put the inserts back in the file. You don’t have to clean it out until you get to that week of the next year.

Then, get an envelope for your purse (plastic envelope or otherwise). This is where you will put your coupons for the store you are about to go to. Simple as that.

Trust me. It works, and you will love it if you are crunched for time.


An easy win if you’re getting started

If you’re just getting started couponing, or haven’t even gotten started yet, here’s an easy win for you:

According to, the 55-yard Oral B Floss is on sale this week at Wal-Mart for $0.97. In the P&G insert this last Sunday 1/1/12, there was a $1-off-one Oral B floss coupon.

Many people in my town that don’t coupon, buy their groceries at Wal-Mart. If you’re headed there anyway, take your $1/1 Oral B coupon with you and the floss will be free.

This is just a very easy, one-step thing you can do to kill something and drag it home that’s likely to be in your pathway anyway. Go for it!

Here is a link to the Wal-Mart coupon policy, which explains that they will accept this coupon and apply the extra 3 cents to the rest of your order (or give it back to you as cash). But, you will always have to pay tax on the pre-coupon price.
